Elphinstone Main Street is due to close from 14 April for five days to allow developer Bellway to carry out essential ground and utility investigations in the village.
The B6414 will close between Tranent Road and Marchwood Court to allow contractors working on behalf of Bellway to carry out mapping of the utility network and assess ground conditions. This will inform their future works to connect its Elfenne Gardens development to the mains sewage network which are anticipated to take place during the school summer holiday period. The road will reopen on the evening of 18 April and no extension will be granted to this investigatory work.
The road closure has been agreed for the Easter holidays, a period of reduced traffic volumes, and to minimise disruption to the village’s primary school. A signed diversion will be in place and the Prentice bus service 110 will turn at Tranent Road. Pedestrian and emergency services access will be retained throughout.
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Due to the nature of the works and the excavation required, a full road closure is necessary and has been agreed on the basis that the current sewage waste arrangements at Elfenne Gardens cannot continue long-term. Bellway and its contractor have advised that these investigation works are required to allow them to plan successful mains connection works and resolve this issue. The road will reopen from evening of 18 April.”
A spokesperson for Bellway said: “These works are essential to be able to connect up our Elfenne Gardens development to the mains sewage system after previous delays in being able to accommodate the roadwork during periods which limit disruption to the local community. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these roadworks.”
