With high tides and a storm surge expected in the days ahead, flood barriers are being placed on New Street in Musselburgh as a precautionary measure.

These conditions mean there is a possibility of coastal flooding. High tides are expected at 4.52am and 5.27pm on Thursday, followed by 5.34am and 6.10pm on Friday.

Putting the barriers in place ahead of this is a precautionary measure, with teams monitoring the situation closely in the days ahead.

A Met Office yellow warning for wind covering East Lothian is in place from 1am until 9am on Thursday.

The public are advised to take care on the coast by being aware of high tides and large waves. Even from the shore, large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea. Don’t enter the sea in stormy conditions to keep yourself and others safe. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
