A pop-up shop hosting talks, workshops and activities about Dunbar and its high street is coming to the town as part of Civic Week 2024.
Dunbar Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) and its partners will be based at 108 High Street from 8 to 15 June with a programme of varied events on topics from grants, materials and apprenticeships linked to the scheme.
As well as finding out more about the work the scheme is funding and how to get involved, visitors will be able to contribute to the future vision for Dunbar High Street, take part in sketching and creative activities and learn practical skills such as how to refurbish a sash and case window. All activities are free.
Dunbar CARS was developed by East Lothian Council and the local community and launched in January 2023; it is funded by Historic Environment Scotland (HES).
The scheme focuses on a range of heritage and conservation-based regeneration activities within the town centre until 2027. It offers grant aid towards appropriate repair works to traditional buildings in private ownership as well as supporting complementary initiatives such as traditional skills training and community heritage projects to increase awareness and understanding of the town’s rich heritage and the care and maintenance of its traditional buildings. It will also undertake a combination of larger, priority building repair projects to properties identified through consultation with the community as having a detrimental impact on the town centre.
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “The pop-up shop will be a focal point for the Dunbar Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme during Civic Week, an exciting point in the town’s calendar. The team is looking forward to meeting local residents and community groups and hearing about their activities and how they see their high street buildings.”
The pop-up shop has been developed in collaboration with Historic Environment Scotland, The Ridge, Dunbar Civic Week and Dunbar Traders Association.
