Works to install a carriageway raised table at east end of North Berwick High Street scheduled to start early March

East Lothian Council plans to commence the installation of a carriageway raised table* at the east end of North Berwick High Street, which includes Quality Street and Melbourne Place, from Monday 4 March 2024.

It is appreciated that this type of work may cause some disruption to residents and businesses, and the council will always work constructively and where possible seek to minimise any disruption or impact on those that live, work, or visit the location.

To undertake the work safely, selective road closures are to be implemented, and to minimise the impact on all road users, the work is programmed in three phases. The road closures will be in place between 09:00 and 16:00 on weekdays only, except for Melbourne Place (Car Park Exit).

  • Phase 1:            Monday 4 to Friday 8 March and Monday 11 to Friday 15 March 2024
Footway and drainage work at High Street / Quality Street junction. High Street (Quality Street to Market Place) - Road Closed (09:00 to 16:00 hours). Quality Street Temporary Traffic Management (TTM). No weekend road closures.

  • Phase 2:           Monday 18 to Friday 22 March 2024
Footway and drainage work at Quality Street / Melbourne Place junction – Melbourne Place (Car Park Exit) - Road Closed for the remaining duration of the work. Quality Street TTM.

  • Phase 3:            Monday 25 to Thursday 28 March 2024
Raised table surfacing – Quality Street and High Street – Road Closed (09:00 to 16:00 hours). Melbourne Place (Car Park Exit) Road Closed.

*A carriageway raised table is a speed hump with a long flat section generally used at junctions and which can also improve crossing facilities for pedestrians

All diversion routes will be signed and advance notification signage in place before commencement.  Pedestrian access and emergency vehicle access will always be maintained.

The above dates are subject to change given the weather susceptible nature of the construction process.

Further correspondence providing more specific details including contact details for any queries and access arrangements will be issued to all properties directly impacted by the work.
