East Lothian’s Planning Committee met on Tuesday 6 February and discussed one application relating to Winterfield tennis courts, Dunbar.
The council had applied to move existing floodlighting and adjust some existing lights so that they were potentially less intrusive in terms of light pollution on nearby properties.
Planners had recommended approval of the plans however it was called off the Scheme of Delegation List by Councillor Jardine to allow a full discussion of the proposals.
Five objections were received to the application with the main reasons being the unacceptable level of light intrusion to residential properties and the potential detrimental effect on wildlife habitats in Winterfield Park.
Following a debate, planning committee members voted to grant permission, with conditions in place to limit the levels of light and control the direction of the lights. There were eight votes in support of the application and three abstentions.
The relevant application number is 23/01207/P.
