New traffic junctions improving safety going to North Berwick schools
Cllr John McMillan, Cabinet Member for Environment, Economic Development and Tourism, joined representatives from Law Primary and North Berwick High School Parent Councils, Stantec, Sustrans and respective head teachers to see the new junction improvements installed earlier this year to improve active travel safety to and from the schools.
The improvements, initiated by East Lothian Council, funded by Sustrans, the national cycling, wheeling and walking charity, and designed by consultants Stantec have seen the introduction of a fully signalised crossing on Haddington Road near the High School and a Zebra crossing with associated safety features near Law Primary School.
Cllr McMillan, said: “These measures are a major safety initiative to enhance safer routes to school by foot, cycle or scooter and have been warmly welcomed by the wider school communities in North Berwick.”
Michelle Moore, head teacher of North Berwick High School said: “It is very clear that the new signalling and crossing improves the safety of young people travelling to school – this is a very welcome addition to the area.”
