East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership announced an external review would take place to assess concerns about access to care provided by Riverside Medical Practice and associated services.
The review is now underway and is progressing well.
The independent review is designed to gather patient feedback and consider how the practice provides access to its services.
The review team have welcomed and received information from a number of individuals via local MSPs, patient groups, the East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership and Riverside Medical Practice.
A key part of the review is seeking the view of patients about their experiences accessing healthcare services at Riverside, and associated services in Musselburgh. The review team would like to thank the patients who have participated in the focus groups to date. The team also appreciate the helpful cooperation from local elected members, staff from the East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership and Riverside Medical Practice.
Focus groups are used in research to record the views of the participants and to enable understanding of the topic being explored. The groups will be complete by the end of July, when the anonymous information will be analysed and form part of the final report.
Four of the 10 groups have taken place and next week the focus groups will include options for people to share their views in person. These focus groups are reaching out to community groups including young people, carers, people with disabilities and sensory impairment and veterans who are patients at Riverside.
Dorothy Armstrong, Chair of the Review Panel, commented: “On behalf of the review team, we would like to thank all the patients who have participated in the focus groups and for sharing their experiences in a respectful and dignified manner. We are also grateful for the suggestions made about ways to improve access.”

Review findings will be published in September 2022.
