Testing arrangements for East Lothian residents with no symptoms of COVID-19 have been confirmed for the next week.
Options include visiting the testing centre in Musselburgh where people can get tested or collect a kit to take home, attend at a mobile testing unit (see further details of both below), ordering home delivery of a testing kit online or collecting a testing kit from a community pharmacy.
Depute Council Leader Norman Hampshire said: “It is very clear that we must continue to be on our guard given the number of cases of COVID-19 being reported in East Lothian and elsewhere. There is recognition that, across the country, the vaccination programme is reducing the harm that the virus causes. While the programme continues to progress well, there are of course those – particularly younger people - still requiring one or both doses of the jab.
“Everyone who had missed spending time with their loved ones, and the businesses which are the lifeblood of our communities, have welcomed the easing of restrictions in recent times. But there is still a risk to health and it’s essential that everyone continues to follow national health advice, including remembering ‘FACTS’, and getting tested regularly – even if they have no symptoms.
“Almost 1 in 3 people who have the virus don’t show any of the usual symptoms and so could be passing it on without knowing. So getting tested can help stop the spread. People can get tested or collect a kit from the former Stoneyhill Community Centre in Musselburgh, visit a mobile test unit, order online or collect from a community pharmacy.”
Testing can help society move to an even less restrictive way of life. It means local residents can find out if they are positive - even if they’ve received vaccination - and take immediate action to stop the spread of the virus, by self-isolating.
