Short stretch of Law Road to become two way
Work will be carried out on Tuesday (29 June) to turn the short section of the one-way system of Law Road, North Berwick back to two way between St Andrews Street and Kirk Ports.
Head of Infrastructure, Tom Reid, said: “This section of Law Road became one-way as part of the Spaces for People programme to provide appropriate additional space for people walking into and around the town centre. As Covid restrictions have eased and more people are coming to North Berwick we were contacted by the RNLI who were concerned that the current road layout had an impact on their volunteers travelling to the station for a call-out.”
“We have considered this request carefully and feel that changing a short stretch of Law Road to enable two-way traffic will assist volunteers required to attend and emergency more quickly whilst also retaining some safety for other users of this route such as pedestrians and cyclists. While the road has a 20mph speed limit it is a busy street with lots of pedestrian and traffic movement so we would urge all road users to exercise care.”
The section of Law Road between St Margaret’s Road and St Andrews Street will remain one-way for now to allow additional space for pedestrians on the narrow footway.
