Lesley Brown has been named preferred candidate for the role of East Lothian Council’s new Head of Education and Children’s Services.
Councillor Shamin Akhtar, Cabinet Spokesperson for Education and Children’s Services, said:
“I’m pleased to say that, after a rigorous recruitment process, Lesley Brown was identified by the Chief Officer Appointments Sub Committee comprising Elected Members as preferred candidate. Delivering the more prosperous, safe and sustainable East Lothian we all want to see includes helping our children achieve their fullest potential in life.
“Lesley has a strong track record and will play a vital leadership role. This is particularly important at a time when East Lothian is one of Scotland’s fastest growing areas, with a continued focus on ensuring all children and young people get the best start in life, enabling them to enjoy being young, and to grow and develop in a safe, supportive environment. I would like to congratulate Lesley on her appointment. I look forward to working with her.”
Chief Executive Monica Patterson added:
“I would like to congratulate Lesley and look forward to working with her as she leads the development of services and partnerships that will enable children and young people in East Lothian to live safe, healthier, more active and independent lives.
Ms Brown said:
“I am delighted and feel very honoured to be the preferred candidate for the role. I am very committed to East Lothian and look forward to working with colleagues to support children and families in the years ahead.”
Ms Brown joined East Lothian Council from Education Scotland in July 2017 as Quality Improvement Manager. She is currently Chief Operating Officer for Education.
The appointment is subject to the normal pre-employment checks.
A start date will be confirmed in due course.
