East Lothian Council’s Head of Education and Children’s Services, Fiona Robertson, is to leave the authority to take up a new position with Midlothian Council.
The news was announced following a special meeting of Midlothian Council where her appointment as Executive Director Children, Young People and Partnerships was approved by councillors.
Fiona Robertson joined East Lothian Council on secondment from Education Scotland in April 2016. She was appointed to the role on a permanent basis in September 2017 and as of 1 April 2019 has also held responsibility for Children’s Services.
Fiona said: “It has been a privilege to work within East Lothian Council and to lead Education, East Lothian Works and, recently, Children’s Services. I’d like to pay tribute to the elected members and staff who work so hard to make a difference for families across the county, and to recognise the commitment that exists to working in partnership with parents, children and young people.”
Cabinet member for Education and Children’s Services Councillor Shamin Akhtar said: “I would like to pass on my thanks to Fiona for the huge contribution and difference that she has made to the Education Service and to our schools across the county. She has carried out her role with great professionalism, dedication and with the expertise that has shown to be invaluable to the service and the staff that she been working with.
“She took on her role as Head of Education & Children’s Services with passion and commitment and with clear purpose of why we are here, which is to make a difference to the lives of children and young people. She has most definitely made a difference too many people. I know that she will be missed by the school community across the county and I wish her all the best in her new role.”
