A refurbishment of the swimming pool at Haddington’s Aubigny Sport Centre has been progressing in recent weeks.
Unfortunately, due to a supply chain issue, the pool and health suite is now expected to be closed until 27 July. The rest of the centre continues to be open for all gym, fitness and sporting activities.
Tom Reid, Head of Infrastructure with East Lothian Council, said:
“Everyone is looking forward to the completion of this renovation, which will transform the look of the pool for the benefit of the many people who use this much-loved facility.
“We are disappointed that, due to a supply chain issue out with our control, the date for the pool’s re-opening has been now been revised from the end of June with a new opening date of 27 July 2019.
“We appreciate this will be frustrating for pool users who will be eagerly anticipating the pool’s re-opening and we are grateful for their patience and understanding.
“I’d like to assure everyone that we are working very closely with the contractor, subcontractor and enjoyleisure to complete the project within this revised timeframe.”
The Aubigny Sport Centre is managed on East Lothian Council’s behalf by enjoyleisure.
Bill Axon, Chief Executive of Enjoy, commented:
“Whilst we are extremely disappointed with the delay, we remain extremely excited about the enhancements and improvements being provided for our customers. These works will transform the swimming pool environment at Aubigny into a more modern and dynamic setting aimed at motivating and encouraging more people to get more active more often.
“Although, the dry side facilities remain open at Aubigny, this extended closure of the swimming pool is not what anyone would wish, Enjoy would welcome all our customers at any of our other swimming pools, which remain open. These are namely, Musselburgh, Loch Centre, Tranent; Mercait Gait, Prestonpans; North Berwick and Dunbar, where our staff will be delighted to be of service. I would also like to sincerely thank the residents and customers at Haddington for their patience and ongoing support, which is genuinely much appreciated.
“I can also confirm that monthly direct debit payments for swimming lessons will continue to be suspended while the refurbishment works progress.”
