Participation Requests

Part 3 of the Community Empowerment (Scotland) 2015 Act introduced participation requests as a new way for community groups to get involved in how the council and other public bodies plan and deliver services.

Before you make a formal Participation Request

There are already a wide variety of ways in which community groups can help influence the way in which council services are planned and delivered - these are outlined in our Community Participation Opportunities Guide.

If you would like to look further at the option of submitting a participation request, you should read the Scottish Government's guidance (Scottish Community Development Centre have produced a useful summary and flow chart).

You can also contact the council to have an informal discussion at this stage; the council may be able to point you in the direction of further advice and support - email participationrequests@eastlothian.gov.uk

Submitting a Participation Request

If you have decided that you do want to submit a participation request, you can do this by completing a Participation Request Form.

Once we have received your completed form we will check to make sure that your request reflects the requirements outlined in the statutory guidance. Once we are happy that all the application is valid we will issue you with a validation letter. The participation request process only starts after this letter has been issued.
