Childminders
East Lothian Council works in partnership with a number of childminders who offer funded early learning and childcare hours. Professional childminders work from their own home to provide a flexible, high quality childcare service in a family setting. Childminders must be registered with the Care Inspectorate, who will agree the number of children that the childminder can safely care for, and must meet the national standards for early learning and childcare. Childminders may work on their own, with an assistant or be jointly registered with another member of the family.
Being cared for by a childminder gives children the opportunity to learn from real-life experiences.
You can choose to take some or all of your funded hours at the childminder when your child becomes eligible. Parents should contact the childminder directly for full details of the funding models they offer. Please refer to blended placements if you wish your child to use their funding at more than one early learning and childcare setting.
