Scottish Independence Referendum - 18 September 2014
The total number of ballot papers counted in the referendum for the whole of Scotland is 3,623,344. The turnout is 84.6%.
Number of votes
- Yes - 1,617,989
- No - 2,001,926
- Rejected - 3,429
The reasons for rejection are as follows:
- want of an official mark - 16
- voting in favour of both answers - 691
- writing or mark by which voter could be identified - 168
- unmarked or void for uncertainty - 2,554
Therefore, the majority of valid
votes cast yesterday by the people of
Scotland in response to the
referendum question, "Should
Scotland be an independent
country?" were in favour of No.
