Poll card FAQs

When will I receive my poll card?

The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will issue poll cards on 10 June

I have not received my poll card, can I still vote?

Yes, you can still vote even if you do not have a poll card, provided you are on the electoral register. To check if you are on the register contact the ERO on 0131 344 2500

I received my poll card but will be away on holiday/business, what can I do/can I still vote?

Yes, you may be able to apply for a postal or proxy vote.

Postal Vote

You can apply for a postal vote up to and including 19 June.  The first Postal votes issue to voters will be around 19 June with a second issue on 26 June. A postal vote can be sent to any address that you give.

If applying for a postal vote you need to consider when you are actually going away, i.e. if you have asked for your postal vote to go to your home address you need to be at home to receive it.  If you have applied for your postal vote early you will be in the first issue, however if you have applied nearer the deadline of 19 June you will be in a later issue.  You may wish to consider a proxy vote if you are unsure.

Proxy Vote

You can apply for a proxy vote (you appoint someone to vote on your behalf) up to and including 26 June.

How to Apply

Apply for a postal vote on the UK Government website

or, for a paper form, contact the ERO on 0131 344 2500.

I received my poll card but have lost it, can I still vote?

Yes, you do not need your poll card to vote – as long as you are on the electoral register you can go to the polling station allocated for your address and vote.

To check if you are on the register contact the ERO on 0131 344 2500.

I have recently moved house, where will I vote?

Did you inform the ERO that you have moved?  If so, then you should receive a poll card. If you did not tell the ERO that you have moved then you may still be on the electoral register at your old address. If this is the case you will be able to vote at the polling station for that address.

To check, phone the ERO on 0131 344 2500.
