Public Protection Arrangements
The Justice Social Work Service in East Lothian works with a number of partner organisations to prioritise public safety:
Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA)
MAPPA are a set of statutory partnership working arrangements which places a duty on all responsible authorities to work together to assess and manage the risk posed by violent or sexual offenders, in a local authority area (MAPPA Guidance). They were introduced in 2007 as part of The Management of Offenders etc. (Scotland) Act 2005. The responsible authorities are:
- The Chief Constable of the Police Service of Scotland
- The Local Authority
- The Health Board
- The Scottish Prison Service
MAPPA makes sure the management of offenders is consistent across all council and police force areas. It also sets out how offenders should be assessed and how the risk posed by some of these offenders should be managed.
