What support is there for my education?

Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

This provides financial support to eligible 16 to 19 year olds who want to continue learning.

An EMA is a weekly payment of £30 paid directly to young people who are continuing education beyond the age of 16, or have left school and taking part in an Activity Agreement.

Who makes the payment?

  • If you are still at school, the payment is made by East Lothian Council.
  • If you are taking part in an Activity Agreement, the payment is made by East Lothian Council.
  • If you are at college, the payment is made by your college (Apply to college will also provide assistance in completing)

Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS)

SAAS are an agency of the Scottish Government giving financial support to eligible students doing a course of higher education in the UK.
