Community Protection Officers
The Community Protection Team was formed in September 2023 replacing the Safer Communities Team. The team is geographically split between East and West.
Each team contains a team leader, one Senior Community Protection Leader (Antisocial Behaviour), one Mediation Officer and two Community Protection Officers. The team is supported by a Dog Control Officer.
The primary role of Community Protection Officer is to:
Work in partnership with other council teams, officers from Police Scotland, members of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and a variety of community organisations in addressing all forms of community safety related issues.
The Community Protection Officers are also responsible for taking action against those who fly-tip, litter, and dog owners who fail to "pick-up" after their dogs have fouled. They also investigate complaints of abandoned vehicles and support the Dog Control Officer in the discharge of his duties, including, picking up strays, investigating dog-on-dog attacks and providing advice within the context of dog barking complaints.
Officers will also assist the Senior Community Protection Officers in the investigation of property based antisocial behaviour cases.
The team currently provide an out of hours service every Friday and Saturday between 2pm and 10:30pm.
