Explosives Storage
You will need a licence to store over 5kg of explosive material (The Explosives Regulations 2014). This can be fireworks, marine distress flares, theatrical pyrotechnics etc. More guidance is available from the Health and Safety Executive. If you are not a registered firearms dealer and are storing less than 2000kg of explosive material, you can apply for a licence.
Whatever type of explosives you are storing, you will need to assess the fire and expolsion risks and put in place safeguards to protect your employess and the public. Risk assessment forms and guidance is available from the Health and Safety Executive.
If you are a registered firearms dealer, or wanting to store explosives that require a certificate such as gunpowder or high explosives, you should contact Police Scotland.
Storing more than 2000kg of explosive material or manufacturing explosives, requires a licence from the Health and Safety Executive.
Persons who wish to supply fireworks at dates other than 15 October to 10 November, 26 to 31 December, Chinese New Year and Diwali require an additional licence (Fireworks regulations 2004). Fireworks can only be supplied between the hours of 7:00am and 6:00pm and in maximum quantities of 5kg.
