Our Amenity Services team are responsible for the maintenance of most of the public open space in East Lothian.
Whether it’s a local park, the litter on your pavement, the grass sports pitch that you use on a Saturday or the Right of Way that you walk your dog on, we visit these areas as often as possible to keep them clean and tidy, ensure they’re regularly cut, mark out or sprayed in an effort to keep the county looking at its best.
We are responsible for:
- Beaches
- Litter and street cleaning
- Dog fouling
- Trees and woodlands
- Play areas
- Gardens
- Pitches
- Cemeteries and burial grounds
- Commemorative benches
- Fly tipping
- Weed control and more.
Protection of the environment is also important to us and we’re trying to reduce chemical usage, protecting and enhancing wildlife habitats and developing a culture of health, safety and well being in all our activities.
During 2017, we achieved a 98% rate for recycling the litter and grounds maintenance waste we produce. Some of the products of this recycling, such as composts and recycled rubble are now being used in landscaping and maintenance of the open space.
