Fly tipping
Fly tipping of household and business waste is also a growing problem in East Lothian and we deal with over 400 reported incidents a year. If you have some household waste that you need to get rid of and it can’t be put in your wheelie bin, either take it to one of the many recycling centres around the county or you can phone to arrange a bulk waste collection.
Council Officers are authorised to serve Fixed Penalty Notices on those who engage in fly-tipping. The current financial penalty is £500 and there is no right of appeal. Failure to pay the penalty within 14 days will result in a report being submitted to the Procurator Fiscal
If you find some dumped rubbish that needs to be removed - report it online, or email or phone us. Unless the rubbish is on private land - then it is the responsibility of the landowner to remove it.
