You can hire a car club car or van by the hour. The vehicles are parked in local streets, and an app or a membership card unlocks the one you have booked, which you simply return when you are done.

Insurance, maintenance and fuel are all covered in the price of the hire, and most car clubs allow you to choose from a range of vehicles - large or small, petrol or electric. You might be surprised how much cheaper using a car club is compared to owning a private car, and making the switch will help bring down carbon emissions across East Lothian, while relieving congestion and parking issues in our communities.

There are three car clubs with vehicles in East Lothian – Co-wheels, Enterprise and Hiyacar.

Pick up a Hiyacar where you are in East Lothian

You can now hire a car where you are in East Lothian with Hiyacar during evenings, weekends, and public holidays. Bike hire

East Lothian Council have partnered up with Brompton to bring folding bicycles to community hubs across the county. Brompton virtual hub hires are an affordable, accessible and user friendly way to access the benefits of cycling without having to worry about servicing, storage or the up font cost a buying your own bike. Just book a bike on Brompton’s bike hire app and pick it up from one of the following locations:

• Prestonpans Library
• The Royal Mackintosh Hotel, Dunbar

Whether you are heading into Edinburgh for the day and want to get from the station to the office as quickly as possible, or are just looking to explore East Lothian on two wheels, a Brompton will travel with you on trains and/or buses with ease, and allow you to leave the car behind. Hire a bicycle for £5 for 24 hours.Just make sureif you are travelling by bus with a Brompton that you use the carry-bag provided.

Ebikes and standard bicycles are also available to hire on a day-by-day basis from our local bike shops:

People living in or visiting Pencaitland can hire electric bikes for a week or more from the community eBike hire scheme.
