Blue Badge scheme

The Blue Badge scheme now extends the criteria to include people with a diagnosed behavioural, or cognitive impairment, which means they have little or no awareness of the dangers from traffic.

Eligibility

Applicants need to demonstrate eligibility by providing confirmation that they have been diagnosed with a mental disorder.

Evidence is needed that applicants are in receipt of these benefits:

• the higher or middle rate of the care component of the Disability Living Allowance
• the higher or lower rate of Attendance Allowance
• the Personal Independence Payment - specifically that the individual has been awarded a total of at least 8 points across sections 7, 8 and 9.
