Project loans
Tell us about your projects for the coming term and we will provide you with a project box containing a range of resources to support your teaching.
If you'd like us to compile a project box for you, please ask us for a Project Request Form.
Books
Our team of experienced librarians select high quality, durable books, and your project box will contain modern, accessible books that will appeal to your pupils. Our collection of books supports all major aspects of the curriculum from 'People who help us' to 'Magnets and electricity'.
Digital resources
We understand that you may need resources in formats other than books for your project. We have a wide range of online resources available; eBooks, eAudiobooks, and SCRAN.
We have free access to Universal Class; video-based tools which provide ICT training on topics such as website coding, social media, and most Microsoft and Apple software.
We also offer access to the reading promotion tool and book recommendation site Whichbook, a web resource which enables millions of combinations of factors and then suggests books which closely match your needs.
Artefacts
Our artefacts make learning fun. We have chicken costumes, fire-fighter uniforms, chain mail, glove puppets, Victorian toys, evacuee suitcase, and lots, lots more. These objects can be used in a variety of ways from role-playing to stimulating discussions or even as an inspiration for arts and craft or creative writing.
Fiction collections
We also provide collections of fiction to primary and nursery schools.
Healthy eating
We have packs of resources to support healthy eating promotion in schools and nurseries. These include teaching support materials and plastic food models.
Scotland and East Lothian collections
Our Scotland collection contains a wide range of material (including books, CD-ROMs and DVDs) on subjects such as culture, history and geography. The collection also includes both modern and traditional Scottish literature for young people.
The East Lothian collection contains a range of books, leaflets, maps and videos to help pupils learn about their own heritage. Although most are aimed at adults, we select the resources, which are most suitable for children and young people.
School visits
Make a date with your local library; our members of staff are delighted to receive school visits. Tell us:

- the topics you are researching
We can organise a story time session for your class, and staff will be on hand to help your pupils select appropriate books.
