The Musselburgh Flood Protection Scheme is a key project being developed to identify the most appropriate measures to reduce flood risk in the town.
A project team has been working to assess possible risks to parts of the town. Information will be used to identify the best flood protection measures for the future – helping to ensure Musselburgh continues to be a great place to live, work and visit.

Project update
The Preferred Scheme was approved by Council in January 2020. Since then we have been undertaking technical work to model all types of flood risk according to the latest government estimates for climate change. Having completed this, we began our Outline Design stage in March 2021, which is ongoing. During this stage we will be consulting widely with regulatory stakeholders as well as with members of the public to help shape a sustainable scheme that works for the people of Musselburgh.
We hope to share the output of the Outline Design, including drawings and visualisations, with as many people as possible at our Public Exhibition No. 2 later this year if the coronavirus situation allows.
To register for updates from Musselburgh Flood Protection: email us. If you register we will also contact you to invite you to get involved with Public Exhibition No. 2.
The project team now have a website: www.musselburghfloodprotection.com. It was launched earlier than intended in response to requests from our stakeholders and to the coronavirus pandemic. The website is one part of the scheme’s new Strategic Communication Plan - which has been developed to ensure we can communicate effectively with our stakeholders. The dedicated website is the new home for all information relating to Musselburgh Flood Protection Scheme including the documents previously published on this webpage.
